Letting Agency have found 3 CCJ's on partner HELP

Me and my partner decided a couple of months ago we were going to rent a place together along with my little girl full time and his son at weekends.

We found a perfect house through an agency and applied. Paid 100.00 for the credit referencing.

My partner warned me not to get my hopes up too much as when he was younger 10-12 years ago, he went a bit daft and had bad credit. I didnt think this would be a problem as this is 6+ years ago and didnt think this should be taken into account?

The agency used a company called MARAS (if anyone is familiar) they first told the agency they found 2 CCJ's on my partner. when contacting MARAS later that day they had actually found 3... 2005, 2006 and 2008... My partner says he knew nothing about this. He later ran a credit check through experian and they said he has one CCJ in 2008 - which he can prove.

Our situation is as follows.

I am 24 years old and have lived at my parents address since I was a baby. I have been employed by the same company for 5 years and the agency have confirmed I have no bad credit / bankruptcies / ccj's ect...

My partner has lived at 4 addresses in 3 years which looks bad, but for good reasons and the agency accepted this.

Together our total monthly income is well over 3000. The monthly rent is 495 so we can afford the rent.

The agency first suggested that we pay 3 months rent upfront on top of the normal month and deposit. This is to cover the risk of my partners history.

I have just got off the phone to the agency and they have been advised by MARAS to give us a refusal. Without the chance of the 3 month deposit that we were hoping for.

We cannot have a guarenter as my dads job is unsafe at the moment (possibly being forced into early retirement where he will lose a big chunk of their pension, so i do not want to put them in this position) and my partners mum is very sick and undergoing serious treatment in hospital for 6 months (his dad is also off sick in work due to this reason) we do not want to ask anyone else to do this for us.

Can MARAS recomend this? I could understand if we both had bad records, but I have come back with no problems?

Does anyone have any experiance with this company or any advice we can do? We do not want to lose this house but its starting to look that way!! :-(

Hmmm - I'm sorry but with a CCJ (or more) on his record then he and you will find it difficult if not impossible to rent through agencies :( You'd probably have more luck looking through the paper / trying gumtree, private lettings to be honest.
I would have thought that all CCJ's would have shown up on his experian record but I know that the 3 different credit referencing agencies Experian, Equifax and Callcredit can all record different information depending on which lenders report to them so perhaps that explains it?
As your partner has had several differnt addresses they may be linked to different addresses - has experian got a record of all the addresses?
The only way around this is to try private lets as above, or offer 6 months rent up front, or a guarantor as far as I know :(
