Try a system restore, if it doesn't work, run rkill followed by a full malwarebytes scan, fix anything found before closing

Run rkill ? I'm sorry, I don't know what that means or how to do it. Trying to do anything on the laptop now is slow & painful. Am using my phone for this..
Thank you againWhen people show you who they are, believe them the first time0 -
It's all in the link he gave you
Follow it and you'll be fine, just post if you have any difficulties, and also post any logs if you don't mind.

I couldn't get to that link on the laptop; the program kept bouncing me off. So instead I went to the Malware thread, and downloaded the MBAM program. At first it wouldn't run, but then I changed the name, and it worked then.
Here's the log:

MBAM had to reboot, and so far, it looks like it's done the trick. Should I go through the rest of the malware removal steps as a precaution?
ThanksWhen people show you who they are, believe them the first time0 -
Nice work renaming it. I'd still run system restore if you can, then do another scan with Malwarebytes.
Post a log with Hijackthis as well just to double check things (need to run it as administrator). http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/products/hijackthis/beta/HijackThis.exe
Often they are bundled with a common rootkit, so run http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe and http://public.avast.com/~gmerek/aswMBR.htm
> c:\Users\Linzy\AppData\Local\ale.exe (Trojan.ExeShell.Gen)
Next time try a lager, and drink it instead of downloading it0 -

Looks fine, but I'd suggest you run the Windows update to get Service Pack 1 (even though it mostly consists of previous updates).
You can remove these items (unless you use the Windows Sidebar feature) by re-running Hijackthis and check and fix each of these entries:
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\Run: [Sidebar] %ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\Sidebar.exe /autoRun (User 'LOCAL SERVICE')
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\RunOnce: [mctadmin] C:\Windows\System32\mctadmin.exe (User 'LOCAL SERVICE')
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\Run: [Sidebar] %ProgramFiles%\Windows Sidebar\Sidebar.exe /autoRun (User 'NETWORK SERVICE')
O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\RunOnce: [mctadmin] C:\Windows\System32\mctadmin.exe (User 'NETWORK SERVICE')
I'd disable Quicktime and Adobe speedreader from Msconfig > Startup (Start, type MSCONFIG and press enter when it shows up, then click on the Startups tab). There are others you may consider stopping from autorunning as well, and retick them if you have troubles.
Lastly you may be better off with something like Avira, Avast, or Microsoft Security Essentials than McAfee. Just something to think about over your gin & tonic(nothing will stop everything, and we see infections on computers with just about all the common antivirus programs).

The malware these days are made by criminal groups, who hire 'crypters' specifically to repackage the malware in order to defeat antivirus definitions. All antivirus companies struggle to keep up.
It makes it safer to keep up to date with block lists for known bad sites, as well as Sandboxie, rather than relying solely on definition/heuristics of a particular antivirus.0 -
I got home armed with all of the files on a usb drive that I copied at work. Inserted usb drive, the warnings came up a few times, then mcafee said it had cleaned a trojan, but then it cleaned the iExplore.exe from my usb drive say that it was a trojan too.
I ran the FixNCR.reg file and nothing else & the problem seems to have gone. Should I continue with the other steps?0
