Not really my scene autos, but if the switch thingy on the gearbox is faulty would that have the same effect? Would you even get the click? Anyways, if you do get it started and then drive to wherever, will you get it to start after again?
That's my worry, yes. At least if I break down over a quarter mile from the house I can call out the RAC - I haven't ever used them in all these years so maybe it's time to do so.0 -

Yes. You can't remove the key without it being in park anyway.
Thank you0 -
had to ask, my winter car was an auto and i turned the ignition off at the traffic lights for some reason but because i'm not used to automatics it took me ages to realise why it wouldn't start again0

Try a jump start first.
Battery might have enough juice to click the solenoid, but not enough to turn the engine over.
Easier & cheaper to change the battery than the starter motor.0 -
Dripping injectors is a common problem with CRV's and HRV's of that age......it causes starting problems.
A bottle of this....

If the engine does not turn over its unlikely the injectors are the fault. As above, try a jump start. The lights, radio, etc will still work with a nearly flat battery.Dripping injectors is a common problem with CRV's and HRV's of that age......it causes starting problems.0 -
Could be a fuse, could be the start relay, could be the starter itself.... Could even be an immobiliser fault (either the transponder in the key or the car itself).“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

If the starter's clicking then that sounds like simple lack of current, as said try a jump start anyway, but do check the battery connections and the earth lead connections first.
And forget £2 accessory shop jump leads, about as much use as a chocolate teapot.
Try turning all electrical stuff on, lights and heater fan etc, and then start the car with them on, probably find the lights will die and the fan slow right down when you try to turn the engine over...in which case give the battery a good charge up.
Is the battery sealed or can you check the electrolyte levels, might simply have dried up.0
