Choosing tariff then changing supplier...

.... if I sign up for a tariff with a supplier but it is withdrawn before the changeover has happened do I still get it? Or does it all have to be done before the actual tariff can be chosen and signed up for?

I realise that sounds confusing, so what would happen if, for example, I picked a tariff offered by E-ON but it was no longer available by the time they took over the meter - do I just have to pick the best tariff they offer at the time?

*confused*

I had this problem when I switched to scottish power. I kicked up a fuss and they gave me the tariff I'd signed up for. Wish I hadn't bothered now though.

So really it is a bit irrelevant what you pick then as it will undoubtedly have changed by the time it is switched?

Makes me wonder if it is worth the hassle....

Anyone else had the same problem as bikeman?

    Hi emmylou

Can't speak for others, but with E.ON customers choose a tariff at the start of a switch and this will be the product they start on even if it has been withdrawn by the time the switch completes.

Hope this answers your question emmylou. Give me a shout if you need any more advice as will be happy to help.

    Hi Malc,
Thanks for the info. I am already a customer of E.ON - for electricity only. If I changed my gas account to E.ON is it easier than if I wasn't already a customer, or no difference? You may see from one of my earlier posts that I am a reluctant E.ON customer (we only have E.ON as it was what the builders chose and we just transferred it at the time) due to problems when I changed suppliers before at a different property. The customer service from both companies at the time was appalling. I then had an E.ON account at a rented property for a while and I when I eventually moved out I said 'never again will I choose E.ON!'.

Do you have any decent dual fuel deals? I am on your standard tariff so no doubt you have something cheaper for electricity at least - and if I changed tariff only it is easy to do?

    Any advice appreciated!

    Hi emmylou

I'm sorry to hear about the poor experience you've had with us in the past.

Being an existing customer makes no difference, I'm afraid, to the time taken to switch another supply.

All the tariffs we currently have available are listed on our website. However, the best way to see what's best for you is by popping your usage on to one of the independent comparison sites. This will list out all the options, both with us and the other suppliers.

Changing tariff within E.ON is very easy. If you've registered with our website, the tariff can be changed online. Alternatively, give us a call and we'll be happy to do this for you.

Hope this is of some help emmylou. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.
