One might argue that the homes aren't "unsellable" at all, but that they just aren't sellable at the price the current owners want or believe the house is worth.0
-
One might also argue that since they own the houses they are responsible for its upkeep. Presumably they would have got a survey done when purchasing it, and probably bought at much less than it's true value. If it was bought from a private owner they could hardly expect the previous owner to pay for maintenance 4 years later.0

they prob bought them for a song from the council, so paid cash for them.
Looks to me they wanted their cake, and the flipping cherry too..
mortgage companies dont normally give a mortgage on this type of property, i think this has allways been the case?
My house is umpteen years old, and it needs a new roof, and new rendering outside, should i claim off the building firm who done it umpteen years ago,
How long did they expect the council to all the external repairs to their house? I think they dont realise how good they have had it...
We all know the councils have got to do major cut backs.... and i wouldnt like it if i lived in that area, knowing that my coucil tax money was being spent on repairs on a privately owned houseWork to live= not live to work0 -
The council has agreed to do the work so it can't be as simply as you all say. Something we aren't being told.0
-
These houses were never intended to last 100 years when built though were they? I don't think that was any great secret either today, nor at the time they bought them??0

The council will do the work, but they'd have to pay for the repairs... I read it as the council will organise the work to be done, not that they'd pay for it.... or maybe this bunch haven't twigged that yet.
They chose to buy council houses, it's an area of deprivation and low house prices. If they loved it so much they wanted to buy, why do they now want to sell?0 -
Prices of all houses sold there since 2000... total of 22.

That's not how I read it. Psst, you're homeowners now. You're responsible for paying for your own repairs.Residents were told they would be included in a repair scheme but say it has been scaled back as the money is no longer available. But residents say they have since been told some of the funding is no longer available.
In a statement the council said it was still committed to helping residents with repairs.
"We have met with residents on the Trilwm estate on several occasions and have been in regular correspondence," it said.
"We have reiterated our commitment to supporting all homeowners on the estate and to assisting them with home improvements subject to available resources.0
