Hi there
My son paid £500 into my bank account this morning - he said the tiller counted themoney and wrote £500 on the receipt and stamped it, the money went into my account and then went out again and now shows £400 paid in (says error of £500 paid in.) I have spoken to the bank and we are at a stale mate - they say £400 we say £500, does anyone know what I should do next as I thought your receipt was proof of payment or is that just a load of rubbish, what to stop them saying to anyone you thought you paid an amount but we now say that you didn't!!

The cashier will count their till at the end of the day if they are £100 up then there is your £100.0

What is to say that the £100 wasn't taken by staff?0

Lokolo - great comment.
Cncn - if you have a stamped receipt from the teller for £500 then they are obliged to credit you with £500. If your receipt was from a paying in machine, and said subject to checking, then it would depend on how much was in the envelope when it was opened. I know you didn't do this but just adding for context.
All you need to do is produce the receipt. Before you ask, yes, I work for a bank, but no, I didn't get a bonus!0 -
Cncn,
Has the bank given any justification? Forged notes. Miscounted.
What denominations of notes did he pay in?

If it is stalemate then start a formal complaint in writing to the bank's complaint team.
They will undertake an investigation - the result you will know in no more than 8 weeks.0 -

But unless the bank can produce compelling evidence to say otherwise, the amount on the receipt is the amount that should be credited to the account.0
