strange, I've been on Jsa over a year - applied for hundreds of vacancies and this has never happened to me, have been informed will be on the work programme shortly but looking forward to this actually-if they can help me get a job from what I understand it has to be a permanent job for up to two years. I've tried really hard to find work will accept p/time or tempory, shifts etc as long as I'm no worse off financially I'll take it

the 30 hours work you are being asked to do sounds like the 'Mandatory Work Activity' sanction but this is usually only applied to those claimants that the advisors suspect of making insufficient effort to find/or questions of availabilty for work

If this was the case every claimant after a certain time would have to do it - the case of shagzdan is what is termed a sanction

You are being sanctioned, OP. They don't believe you are really available for work or really trying to find work.

Maybe something to do with complaining about two appointment times that clash with the school run. If you aren't available 9-5 then they can say you aren't available for work.

A full time job isn't going to say, oh well, come in late and go home early to pick up the kids from school. If your girlfriend only works a couple of hours a day she must be around to look after the kids most of the time.

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.

if you are so concerned about the actual rate per hour maybe you should take into account the other benefits you are receiving like the HB and CTB? plus the fact you have been claiming for a year so eg 52 (or however many weeks you have been claiming) x JSA rate, plus however many weeks of HB and CTB you have had. take the amount and divide by the 30 hrs they are requesting. im sure you are earning alot more per hour than i am if you work it out like that!

Yes , thanks for your help, we have tried getting more hours for my g/f but can't, the Jobcentre won't retrain me either as there is no money left, I won't get paid for my ex military skills out here, as no civvy job exists!:rotfl:

    Thanks again,

Have you looked at a CP Course..im told there's training available paid for by government..or there's a fund for ex services who cant afford there course fee.

I"ll dig the name of the organization out.

I'm missing something here - if GF works 12hrs per week then why do you have to miss appointments to do the school run ?

Is your 12 year old at Secondary school? If he/she is then surely they should be making their own way to and from school? How old are the middle 2?
