Hi, can anyone help ? I have just taken delivery of a new mattress. The one I tried in the store was quite comfortable, unfortunatly this one is not. Can i return it to the shop for an exchange, ie softer one than has been delivered. I must mention that it was made to order, if that makes a difference.many thanks

If it is not faulty then the quick answer is no.
But you might want to check the reailers T&Cs and it might be worth having a chat with them and see if they will help.0 -
Jelliot03,
I have had a similar experience recently.
I purchased a Hypnos bed after trying it in the showroom and when it was delivered it seemed to be much firmer. I spoke with Hypnos who advised me that the fillings will settle and to give it a few weeks which I have done and now find that it feels slightly softer.0 -
My boyfriend works in a bed shop, he said if the mattress is a special size it is very unlikely that the shop will take it back as chances of re-sell will be low.
However is your bed base the same firmness as the bed you tried the mattress on in the shop? i.e was it a sprung base in the shop and you have a solid base? or visa-versa.
Also with a new mattress it will take anything up to a month for your body to become accustomed to it, especially if you have had your previous mattress for a long time.
Hope this helps0 -
If it's been slept on then very very few shops will take it back.
But maybe just maybe they have delivered the wrong mattress, or it's be made wrong. Mistake can and do happen from time to time.
First thing I'd do is get someone from the shop out to check the mattress.

some shops like Dreams do offer a 40 day exchange deal if you dont like your mattress. so i guess it depends on where you brought your bed from really and their policy.credit card bill. £0.00
overdraft £0.00
Help from the state £0.000 -
You might get some joy but it's not a legal right if you bought in store. It's important to understand why your new mattress isn't comfy. If it's exactly the same as the one you've tried, why not? This could be due to theirs being a bit old and saggy (although that wouldn't necessarily entice people to buy!) or, and this is what I suspect, your divan/bed base is different to the one in the shop. This can quite radically alter the feel of a mattress.
A decent mattress retailer would explain this to you - I know the guy I spoke to took some time explaining about the different types and asking me what kind of base I had. If this didn't happen for you, then mention this when you try to return your mattress."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
Make the shop aware that you feel that it wasn't made to the same specification as the one in the shop. They may suggest you give it a couple of weeks to settle, as it is normal for a mattress to feel firmer to start with.
In what way was the mattress specially made?0
