Siemans "Warrant of Entry" in first communication!

2

Comments

  • I had a card threatening me with a warrant of entry to inspect my gas meter. The card stated that I had not been at home when they arrived to carry this out as arranged. I knew nothing about it.
I complained to Siemens about the tone of the card but arranged a time, convenient to me, for them to come back. When they arrived the "safety inspection" was no such thing, they just wanted to read the meter. The guy reading the meter said he knew lots of people that this had happened to.
I promptly complained to British Gas who basically didn't care. I should say here that I have an internet account where I submit my reading quarterly.
I have now received another similar letter regarding a "safety inspection" of my electricity meter!! Could they not have done this at the same time?? Ridiculous!
Has anyone any idea where I go next to complain to someone who will actually do something about Siemens?!?!

I've never had a written request for an appointment to inspect my meter, they just turn up.

Also, its not the customers meter...

I'm not excusing the letter in the slightest and can imagine it would scare an old lady to recieve a letter like that, all I'm saying is that I cant imagine its as "out of the blue" as the OP suggests..
It is the customer's house and 'house' trumps 'meter'

they can always remove the meter, remember it belongs to them
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

The warrant just says the court has told them they can enter.... unfortunately i've got two big dogs that don't like people trying to break in and they can't read.

They say dogs take after their owners..

If you really think that would stop them you are very much mistaken, I've seen engineers turn up with 4 police officers to enter and fit prepayment meters into a house across the road from where I used to live.

Dogs wouldnt put them off, they would just turn up with a dog warden/RCPCA officer or someone, they would still get in.

It appears Siemens are habitual liars. I, too, have had claims that they've tried to read my meter - but never has any card been left.

So far I have refused to respond to them (like you, I read my own meter). No doubt they will come back with more secret police tactics. I'll let them make a proper appointment like a grown-up business - and if they fail to turn up, bill them at my usual rate.

That should be good for a laugh.

As for complaints, you may be better off trying the media. The regulator appears to have died some years ago. Or maybe fled the country.

you could try telling british gas you have removed the right of imply to your property or siemens on that note. Just a idea that way there not allowed access but doing this way may cause problems.

The gas 'safety check' is basically they just have to look at the meter to check for obvious damage/faults, it is nothing more that that. They are required to do that every 2 years and currently if the HSE has their way this will continue once we have smart meters.

It's a joke - they are meter readers not engineers & hence would have little idea whether the meter was truly safe or not. You may as well be looking at it yourself from a safety point of view :(
