My vehicle has to go for an inspection at DVLA before they will change details on the logbook. Assuming all goes well, does any one know if we will we have to wait till they issue the new logbook to get an MOT and tax, and if so how long will this take.

You won't need the V5 to get an MOT. The problem is going to be taxing it. Have you got a V5 at the moment, what details are being changed, do these details affect the tax band, is the car currently registered to you ?0

Which details are they going to be changing? you can tax your car with the green slip0

Its changing from a panel van to a camper. The tax class is also changing as the donor van was registered with disabled tax. I have the green slip from the old logbook. I'm trying to register as new keeper, change logbook and tax classification all together.0

BTW thanks so much for quick responses.0

hmmm... i'm guessing that you could tax it using the green slip and then when you get the new V5 back you can go to your local VOSA branch and they'll change the tax disc0

What I'm worried about is taking for an MOT and they can't to do it because the records on their computer don't match. (Don't know if this is actually how it works tho). I'm hoping that I could be able to tax it at DVLA office. I know its illegal to drive it on disabled tax. Worse cas senario is having to wait 6 weeks for all the documentation to come through before we can use it . REALLY don't want this - its a camper van -summer will be over!0

not sure if it'll affect it as they just MOT it, they don't compare it to a V5 as far as i'm aware.
My last car was an MR2 Sonic Shadow, which is silver with a black roof. The V5 says it's black (probably because you can change most other panels but not the roof) and the online MOT check has it down over the last 6 years as either; silver, silver and black, or black...0 -
You are very lucky that your conversion is on a panel van more than 10 years old OP or you would have been looking at a big £190 sva test.
Remember also that insurers are a bit titchy about these self builds because they are so hard to value if anything goes wrong0 -
I would ask nicely and see if there is any possible way that the paper work could be done at the office when you take it in for its inspection especially as you're only going to be able to tax it once the taxation class is changed from disabled, but of course your camper will already need to be MOT'd and insured if you're going to tax it there and then. Is it old enough for historic tax?0
