Hi hope someone can help.
My hubby would like to listen to podcasts, mainly radio programmes he is unable to listen to due to work.
Does it have to be an ipod or does any mp3 player work? and if so what storage size is needed.
The Ipods seem very expensive don't mind getting one if needed, but dont want to spend that sort of money if it is not needed.
Thanks in advance

podcasts are mp3 files so you could use a cheap mp3 player
as for the size i would go for a 256mb0 -
The iTunes/IPod combo just makes everything very simple for downloading podcasts and automatically copying them to the player.
Given that you'll be listening to the podcasts soon after broadcast and not keeping them, a 2Gb Nano would be more than enough and have space for favorite music. You could look at a 1Gb 1st generation Nano off eBay.0 -
I don't download podcasts myself but I am sure you can download them to any MP3 player. Someone else will confirm this I am sure. I debated wether an i pod or other player was worthwhile and in the end got a 2Gb Samsung YP-U1 for about £60 (half the cost of an i pod); wrigley's chewing gum packet size and excellent sound. The latest i pod nano has better menu's for finding music on the player but I find the Samsung is fine for what I want.0

Thanks everyone,....... gaming_guy playing on phone/computer/psp! .. makes me feel old, I cant keep up with technology.
Well I am off then to buy the best I can find for £50 or less.
Merry Christmas everyone0 -
Annie.. if pre christmas delivery isn't an issue you can pick them up cheap on Ebay. A 2gig mp3 / mp4 player can be picked up for under £25 from Hong Kong, delivery is usually within 7 working days.
I got the other half a 1Gig mp3 player and it's tiny and ideal for what she wanted one for.0 -
If you get an non-IPod MP3 player, there are a few options to automate downloads - and you can try it right away - since podcasts are usually just mp3 files you can listen to on your computer through any media player.
I personally think Itunes is the best podcast downloader. Even if you don't have an Ipod, it just makes discovering them and subscribing so easy. You can use it to manage your downloading then just drag them from the Itunes window into the MP3 player. You can see Itunes in action over on the thread for MSE's podcasts - don't forget to subscribe to that one
Juice Receiver was one of the first podcast downloaders - long before Itunes came along, and I think it's the next best choice. You can just tell it what folder you want your podcasts to go into.
myPodder does things differently. You can put their podcast program onto the root of the mp3 player and then when you plug it into the computer it should auto-run and suck down any new shows (that's the theory - I'm not sure it works 100% yet)

I've just ordered one of these. I got a 10% discount code from this forum (shhh!) so it came out at £50, delivered.
You will have to hurry though ... last orders for fee delivery 12.00 today.0 -
