Help with Electric - I am confused

Firstly I have read a few posts on the forum and got some useful info, however none of the posts have answered my questions outright. If these post do exist then post the link and I will check them out
I am in the process of buying a two bedroom flat; It is a converted house and has a gas supply to the property as a whole but not into my property itself. At the moment the two bedrooms have one small panel heater each and that is it in the way of heating the property at the moment. Hot water is supplied by an electric immersion tank.
So questions
Heating the house
1. From other threads I have seen that storage heaters are a good way to get cheap heat. However I am not in the house for much of the day as I work full time; So surely I am losing all that stored heat for nothing and when I get home they are almost cold.
Would it not be cheaper in that instance to buy an electric heater and use it for 2/3 hours a night on the higher tariffs?
2. For a 15ft square room would a 1kW heater be suffiecient to heat it, fairly rapidly?
3. Are panel heaters a good option or should I change to convection heater for the bedroom.
Hot water
1. Heating water for a shower in the morning and to wash dishes at night is all I really need. So to me the best way would be
Have an electric shower for in the morning, then heat the tank once at night to wash the dishes and have hot water to wash my hands during the course of the evening.
Alternatively I could get a powershower and heat the tank once in morning and once in the evening.
Any advice?
Finally
If anyone does have an approx. monthly cost for running an entire house on electric (heating, water, oven, hob and the rest) I would really like to know how much. As at the moment it is worrying me a bit.
Thanks in advance
John
