Redundancy Support from Employer

Options
Good Morning

I am wondering if anyone can answer a question for me.

I am shortly going to be made redundant and as part of the deal they have bought in an outplaced company to assist us with updating our CV's etc... my question is I had my initial meeting with the company and got told that I had a certain amount of credits and each bit of their time I used took a certain amount of credits (I hope that makes sense) since then my colleague has been for her meeting and has come back and has almost double the amount of credits.

My question is - can my company offer more support to one person than another?

Thank you in advance

Depend on what they are basing the credits, might be for example service.

Our company gave us all 6 hours worth.

get together and have group sessions that way you utilise only part of your credits as you share the time with others

Thank you - yes the other person has been here much longer so I understand in terms of redundancy package but it seems a bit odd that they would support one member of staff more than another.

I am not sure group sessions are an option because of the way the out-placement company work. They do a lot of direct coaching to fit what each person is planning to do next.

The CV's will have specific stuff but group sessions can save a lot of time and there will be overlaps in some of the skills needed

We had all been long servers so had not looked for jobs for a long time.

    interview techniques,
We also pitched ourselves to each other, very usefull if you are known by the others they can give very good feedback.

    Networking

    Job searching

    etc.

5 people using an hour each gets 5 hours of group related topics and you each get more than an hours worth from that.

Even working on CV's as a group can be benifitial.

I would get everything you can and if you don't ask you won't get. i put myself foward for everything and can honestly say I didn't regret any of it. i even found out more about self employment in case it was a way I wanted to go.

IMO some people need more help than others but that doesn't mean to say you should miss out. Can you source your own assistance from Working Links/Next step/JCP?

  • My company gave me 100 credits.

The outplacement company provided a 'price list':
    • networking course was 4
    • a 1-2-1 session was 10
    • interviewing skills was 6 etc

so maybe your colleague is making more of her credits? Or is she more senior/ more years of service? That may impact her package.

We all got exactly the same help/advice from my former employer regardless of length of service/seniority.

I honestly am very grateful, I have been treated very well. Fortunately I work for a large company that has simply sold "My team" to another company so there it is not a case of liquidation etc...

To answer the other question its not a case that others are using their credits in different ways because we have each only had the first introduction meeting so none of us have made plans on what to use our credits for. Others credit amount is actually double mine.

PoorCharleyBear - This is exactly the same system that we are on. They run certain courses such as for CV skills or interview skills etc.. and you can choose to use say 10 credits to go along to one of those.

    Hi
The company I work for is making people redundant, and we're offering support from Penna. The amount of support that we offer is more for people in more senior positions.
Good luck - from what I've been told, their service is really very good (nothing to sell here, just feedback from my colleagues).
