Royal Mail not accepting post for Canada

Just got back from the PO and have been told due to problems with mail in Canada, Royal Mail have stopped accepting any post going to Canada. I have not checked the RM website yet to see if there is any indication as to when it may resume.

I sell to Canada, what is the easiest way of putting an announcement on listings, will it have to be done individually?

"Mail services to Canada suspended
Due to industrial action by Canadian postal workers all mail services to/from and within Canada have been suspended. Mail sent since Friday 10th June may not have been delivered and any mail currently in the Royal Mail system will be retained until service is resumed. From tomorrow, Thursday 16th June no further mail for Canada will be accepted until normal service resumes. Further details can be found at the <a href="http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/default.jsf?LOCALE=en">Canada Post</a> website."

Can you alter your buyer shipping preferences to exclude Canada for the time, I don't know if that can update on live listings.
Although I would have thought that Canadians would know that their postal service is on strike.

Looks as if anything sent in the last week is also delayed. However Canadians must be aware there is a strike so hopefully will be understanding.

I do sell occasionally to Canada and have decided to block bidders from there until this gets sorted. It is possible to exclude Canadian bidders an all listings, including live ones if you go through your seller preferences.

Oops, I just got an order to Canada and saw this too late...

Is it worth trying to post the item or should I contact buyer first, I am worried about parcel getting lost in a big pile somewhere...

If you were planning on using a courier it should be OK, otherwise RM appear to be saying they will refuse to take it.

Update: my local P.O. said that they were accepting post to Canada but they could not guarantee that it would arrive!
I did not post my item - now I need to let the buyer know...

I would say waiting/offering to cancel is better
you dont really want your item sitting in massive backlogs

I have added notes to my listings (for example when I go on holiday etc).
Someone suggested it here, and I found it to be a good idea.
You need to add a picture (for example a logo) saved on photobucket, and then change it as you need.
Sounds fiddly but easy once you've set it up and know how to do it.

I think the first time I had to add the picture manually to each listing, at the top (or or it may be possible to add it to the html code using bulk editor, I don't know).
Once it's set up, and added to your template you can use it for any type of announcement (not use it for item description, t&c, as it not allowed by ebay as you could change it as you please and there would be no record of what was on the listing at the time of purchase).

Yes this is what I have done, will see what buyer says. I also emailed a Canadian friend this morning and this was her response:

"There on strike (sort of) rotating strikes across the country for now and mail service is down to three days a week. They could escalate to a full strike. But we still have service at the moment. Hope you and the family are doing well!"

As of Thursday 16th, we were told not to accept any post via Royal mail for Canada until further notice, due to Canadian postal strikes. Parcel Force however are still operating as they are couriered, and we have been told to offer this service to customers instead.
