Unfair Bank Charges

Hi,

This is my first post on MSE and was wondering if anyone could give me some advise.

My partner has been receiving letters of the debt collection company Lowell Portfollio re a debt with HBOS. My partner said that he has no debt with HBOS so I sent the letter stating that we do not owethsi debt and to stop sending letters. They then sent one saying we did so i request proof which I recieved yesterday in the form of a bank account statement.

The statement showsthat in may 2007 my partner went overdrawn by £90.00 and till Sept 2007 the charged him £39 + a week bringing the debt to just under £800. My partner said that he paid his overdraft and closed his account in May 2007 but this doesn't show on the statement they have sent.

I don't know what action to take now as the charges seem unfair for the amount and he said he had paid it off but the debt company said they might take legal action if we do not pay.

Can anyone give me any advise?

Many thanks
