Hope this comes across in the right way - it might need cleaning, some of the chemicals, especially liquid ones, used in washing machines can cause a build up of algae type residue in the pipes, pumps and around the folds of the door seals etc.
Try cleaning the trap/filter they have on them and then putting in something not delicate or important and run it on the highest temp possible.Signature No Longer acceptable -

Do an empty wash with bleach in the water, about half a cup should do the trick, make sure you give it an extra rince when the cycle is finished0

Have a look here ........
It's way down the list but worth a look? http://www.letsfixit.co.uk/html/washing_machine_faq.html

my washing machine instruction leaflet recommended doing an empty hot wash every now and then to clean the machine. take out soap dispenser too and give it a good scrub. I find mine seems to collect yuk underneath it.x x x0

Every washer needs to be cleaned about once every 6 months. Clean out filter and rubber seal on door (not pleasant!). Engineer gave me packet of powder which it says should be used on a hot wash each month(!! - I will aim for 6 mnthly). Seems to be some type of caustic / bleach powder.
He confirmed that washers collect a build up / residue of detergent, or chemicals which do smell after a while, no matter how clean your machine looks inside or in the dispenser.
I do not know the name of the powder, can be obtained from 08709 077077. There must be a similar product available to do the same job0 -
A cup of washing soda in the drum and a pint of white vinegar in the dispenser drawer on a hot (90 deg) wash has been recommended.
I personally only use the laundry dosing balls to put the detergent into the WM, not the dispenser drawer, as that gets unbelievably gunky - I cleaned mine recently after over 2 years of using the machine, and all it had was a very light coating of limescale, even when I pulled it out.
You would probably get more help if you had this moved to the Old Style board.0
