As I said only the poor pay it, those who are of a financial understanding of merit, are more than aware of how to avoid tax and VAT.

So anyone who isn't one of those is "poor"? Do me a favour!

But that would tax the poor more as they are the ones exposed to the highest fat content foods due to budget.

EG Sausages, burgers are all cheap sources of protein.

    So are lentils, chickpeas etc

They are, but I dare say in the sink estates not many home economic lessons use them :)
But I would have a bet 1KG of economy sausage is a fair bit cheaper.

Asda £1.10 per KG_pale_ for sausage

Shadow chancellor Ed Balls is to call for a temporary emergency tax cut to stimulate the economy and boost consumer confidence.

He will say acting now to counter the slowdown is a better option than "ploughing on and hoping for the best".

He will also warn that months or years of slow growth could leave "a permanent dent in our nation's prosperity".

The Conservatives said Mr Balls had not come up with a "credible alternative" for tackling the deficit.

Sometimes I think ed balls is stupid, and then I read quotes like this, and I know he is.

Tax cuts are nice on their own, but the idea that they are going to reduce the deficit... sigh...

Spending less and taxing more is how you reduce a deficit.

Of course they will - less tax = more spending = more profits = more raised in taxes = less deficit. I would actually abolish all sales taxes and make up the shortfall with increased income tax.

The cut in VAT by labour from 17.5% to 15% didnt encourage me to buy anything extra. The increase in VAT up to 20% hasnt discourage me from buying anything. Barring the biggest of purchases (ie cars) we are talking pennies. Even with those once-every-5-year purchases - washine machines, tvs, bicycles - we are still only talking a matter of a few pounds. Im not going to buy a new tv or washine machine just coz you cut the price by a couple of quid, i'll wait until my current one stops working.

Or altenatively they could just but a big packet of mince and make the burgers themselves

    In Tesco's

The cheapest burgers appear to be £4.71 per kg, whereas the cheapest mince is £2.40 per kg.

You can get lean mince too.

No fattie duty on lean mince :)
