Ebay buyer asking for item sent to non-paypal address?

Sold an item buy-it-now with next day special delivery.

Buyer paid immediately with paypal but followed up with email asking for shipping to 'mothers' address in different town. I am worried this could be some form of scam. It is a £50 mobile phone handset.

I would politely tell them of Paypal protection policy. Refund the payment, and let them know that as soon as payment showing their prefered delivery address is received, the item will go straight out to them. If it were for a couple of quid, I'd probably just send it. This is just how I would do it.

I would do it for a low cost item but not for a £50 phone as you give up all your selller protection even if you do use special delivery.

I got a similar request this morning, and i said no problem.

But if it had not been such a low cost item - it would have been NO WAY!

If paid, refund them and ask them to add the address and repay.

Tell them to add their mothers address to their Paypal account and then you can send it there.

OK - I emailed them very apologetic but explaining it was ebay/paypal 'rules' that I could only send to the registered address and offering to canx transaction but they replied by return saying use verified address then and so all ends well.
