Buying In Thailand

Options
Does anyone know any High Street Lenders that will give me a mortgage to buy a home in Thailand, I have a UK property with plenty of capital as security, looking for £30,000 over 5 years.

You won't get a mortgage on a property in Thailand in the UK.

You could raise the money on a standard UK mortgage on your property here, subject to the usual tests (property value, income etc).

I'm not sure what most banks' minimum term is for a mortgage but suspect it is longer than 5 years. For that sort of time frame you're really looking for a loan.

edit - just done a search. See here.

I'd be interested in knowing if you did manage to find one.

From the ex-pats that I have met, my understanding is that farangs were only able to buy property in Thailand by either having a leasehold in specific buildings or if they wanted a freehold by setting up a limited company with a Thai, where the Thai had the controlling share.
