Buying reduced food to sell in take-aways

Is there some sort of law or regulation against buying reduced food (that needs to be consumed the same day) and then serving it up later in a take-away as part of a dish or meal?
I have noticed several occasions recently when Asian or Oriental people are snapping up huge numbers of WHOOPS items. Eg tonight an Asian gent got literally 20 or 30 packs of Tiger prawns that were reduced to about 20p or so.
20 packs!
It clearly said 'not freezable' - so what was he going to do with them all?
Apart from the fact that he was very greedy and was depriving other people from getting a bargain there was the feeling that these prawns may end up in someone's takeway meal in the next few days.
Surely that would be illegal as they would then clearly be well out of date?

Maybe he had a large family? You can freeze things like prawns if you say curry them first, so maybe he was going to make a big batch?I Believe in saving money!!!:T
A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!0 -
Pure speculation.
I don't see it as being "greedy" or depriving others of a bargain either. I'd have bought them all if I'd seen them too

If you actually know these people operate takeaways that sell such things, then you could contact environmental health for info/advice.0

i would think it is perfectly legal.....no different to him having them in his own fridge and using them.
so good luck with enviromental health just cause he took you whoops bargain before you got there. Maybe you should just knock him out and take them off him next time you see him.....lol
bit childish and petty if you ask me....0 -
What makes you think they have takeaways??
Nothing to stop them cooking them (as above in a curry, or similar) and then freezing (cooked food). They would end up in their OWN meals in the next few weeks.
I bought 10 packs of sausages recently at only 10p per pack (thanks Sainsburys) and I don't have a takeaway/cafe or anything similar.
Some might say I was greedy, some money-saving. I say I was taking advantage of the moment and did give some away (I often buy reduced items for family/friends), who also don't own takeaways.

1, i never eat in a resturant (seen too many grimebuster type programmes) and
2, if something was reduced and i would use it, i too would have cleared the shelf.life is like a loo roll. the nearer the end you get, the faster it goes.0 -
I would have grabbed them all too and eaten like a king for a week or two between the currys, stirfrys and prawn pasta dishes .
Saying that one supermarket I worked in, when the salad was reduced at the end of the day the kebab and chicken shop owner next door use to come in and take it all.0
