Where do I stand regarding lost property?

I'm not sure if I am missing the point here:
You spent a week looking for the coat and iPod at home. So you were not sure if you had lost it at the zoo or at home.
If you knew where you lost it, why did you spend a week looking for it at home?
The park verbally indicated that a coat and iPod had been found.
Before staff are accused of stealing your belongings, how do you know that the items they claim to have found were your items?
I'm sure that many iPods go missing every day, and it's not uncommon to have these in a coat pocket. My farts hospitalize small children

Perhaps we can assume that the OP gave enough details - e.g. pink coat from M&S, age 10 - 11, red ipod nano etc. to allow for accurate identification."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

'Twas an iPod Touch, but let's just a assume, as it's strange how stories change as time goes on and the detail is analysed.

Oh yeah. Well, she's even more of a lucky girl then! Apart from the fact that it's currently lost

how hard is it to understand she spent a week looking for it at home, then contacted the zoo and they said they had it! so yes she does know where she lost it.
I know this person, and the fact she is a season ticket holder/regular at this zoo, and the story has not changed from day one.0 -

...of course you do....but then I'm a cynical SOB!
OP said:-
I left my jacket at a local zoo/park, and in my pocket was my daughters Ipod Touch.
We spent a week searching for it at home, then I asked at the park and they acknowledged and ipod and jacket had been found and said they would look into it.
....why spend a week looking for an Ipod that that was in a jacket you left in a zoo/park?0 -
she has 4 children the youngest being 2, and didn't realise that she left her jacket with the ipod at the zoo until she had looked around her house/car for several days, then see phoned the zoo and asked if the jacket/ipod had been left there and handed in.
I'm glad I have more than 3 brain cells and understand written english!!!0 -

Ah I get it. having 4 children renders you unable to be responsible for an ipod and a jacket.0 -
Just ignore gordi. He's clearly having one of his daysOne important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.0

1. I did not know that I left my jacket and the Ipod there. I didn't miss my jacket as we had a warm spell and I am one of the untidiest people on this planet I did not miss it. I accused my daughter of losing her Ipod in her room, and it wasn't until I had done a search I concluded it MAY have been left at the zoo/farm.
2. I asked the following week if an ipod had been handed in. I was told yes, but in a black jacket. Unaware my jacket was missing I said it wasn't mine.
3. When it got colder, I looked for my jacket, realised it was lost and asked if I could just check the description of the jacket to see if it was mine.
4. The jacket has been identified as mine and i have it back but the Ipod is missing.
I, nor the park, have made any accusations so far. The MD is investigating where the Ipod was put and using cctv to follow it up.
All I was asking for, was a general idea legally whether I could take the matter to the police or if it was my fault for losing it.
Fortunately, I have since had a sensible conclusion from a fellow undergraduate. I'm sorry I asked on here as there are clearly some nasty minded people about who assume everyone is underhand.
Thanks for reminding me why I don't usually ask on forums. There are lots of trolls in here.0
