Still pay exit fee when rejecting increase?

I am on Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 11. There is an exit penalty until October this year if I recall correctly.

The comparison sites say I will be paying £1015 a year for gas and electric, while Online Energy Saver 14 would only cost me £819.

If I am rejecting the price increase following the Ofgem rules, am I still forced to pay the exit fee?

Even if I do have to pay the fee (around £50 I think) it may well be worth me paying it since I stand to save almost £200.

No, there will not be an exit fee. Call them and ask them to transfer your tariff. Long queues on the phone so make sure you use this number: 0800 400200. They will confirm there will be no fee.

Great :) Thanks for the info.

Do you think they will switch me on to Online Energy 14 or will I have to change suppliers? Currently ScottishPower is still showing up as the cheapest for me, just not on the tariff I am on.

They will be only too happy to keep you! As swipe says, there is very little chance of them charging you the fee.If they started doing that, people might as well change supplier!

Yep, no problem. Although they will try to persuade you to take their capped tariff over OES 14.

    Awesome, thanks guys :)

Looks like I am going to have to call them as Swipe said - they seem to have removed the ability to request a call back from the website, and there's no way to send them a secure message either.

I'll let you know how I get on:rotfl:

See this snippet on the end of my recent SP notification email...

Note that the OES14 product will presumably be subject to a price increase but is this showing on the comparison websites as yet??

It might be a frying pan to frying pan job..!

If you notify us that you wish to cancel your agreement before 1st August 2011 and we receive a request for your supply from another supplier within 15 working days, we will not apply the price increase or the cancellation fee for your product. If you have an outstanding debt, we may object to your supply leaving us, but we will give you time to pay the debt and leave us without incurring the increased prices.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • I've read the email and my understanding is that the cancellation fee has been suspended due to the price increase, as per the paragraph above.

...we receive a request for your supply from another supplier within 15 working days,

Why should a charge be reliant upon something beyond my control? Last time I switched it took over 60 days!
  • I have recently moved suppliers from Scottish Power online energy 7 to British Gas and have had several phone calls from Scottish Power trying to persuade me to stay. The latest persistent customer service advised mentioned there was a termination fee showing on the account which he was willing to waive if we stayed but I am sure there is no termination fee applicable as we have been with them since 2009 and I seem to recall if we stayed until November 2010 there is no fee. Has anyone else had this problem? As we have closed our account with them I can no longer get on to my old account.

I have today received the notification email. I see that you and C_Mababejive are correct it does state that the exit fee is suspended.

That will teach me for jumping the gun rather than waiting for official confirmation of the price rise.

My apologies for creating an unnecessary thread :(

uSwitch have the increased prices for my current OES11 tariff, so I was assuming that the increase for OES14 would also be included. But of course, we all know what assume does ...

I think it means the switch has to start within 15 days, not complete.
