International Calls with O2

Hi all,

I'm with O2 home phone + broadband and am very pleased with the package so far. We've gone for the free evening and weekend landline calls (free from 6pm-6am for the 1st hour and all weekend for the 1st hour).

However, we call the US, Canada and a few other countries dotted around to call family regularly. Having read the MSE articles, it may work out cheaper to upgrade to O2's package that gives 600mins to US and Canada anytime per month (for an extra £3.50 per month).

However, calls to other countries such as India and Pakistan are NOT included in the 600mins package. Is our best option going to be override providers?

Interestingly, O2 also give 600mins free per month anytime to 0845 and 0870 numbers. Are there any override providers that use these prefixes? that would be useful!

Thanks

hmm, surely O2 won't be happy about that system - the longer you stay on the line the more credit you get...?

Beware. Most packages offering inclusive 0845 and/or 0870 calls specify that such numbers used for indirect access are excluded. You may get away with it for a while but you could suddenly find the calls retrospectively charged.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Also watch out for O2 extortinate charges to call 0844/0871 numbers.

Have a look at http://www.savacalldirect.com who offer a prepaid a/c with geographical and 0800 access numbers. Good prices for India etc.

I use precaller for more than a year now. Their 0845 number will not be considered as indirect access number b'cos dialing this you can't dial another number. all you hear is a music

Hmm, your thoughts on O2 allowing this? Surely they're the ones who will receive a bill eventually? Is there any harm in trying?
