    just trying to ensure that the tcp/ip is set up before looking at what is blocking it ... not irrelevant at all, his router may not be allowing ....

    sorry guys when to bed shortly after i posted.
    Thanks to greennotm and sobraon i have managed to get a break through.

    Yes i could ping google but could not access it so i uninstalled my firewall (knowing my route has a firewall to protect me) and every thing has worked since.
    SO thanks again for your help!!!

    Check your router's firewall rules to see if it will protect you. By default, most router firewalls are set to allow any outbound services, meaning that any programs running on your computer which attempt to connect to the internet will do so without you knowing anything about them. Running a software firewall will alert you to these programs and give you the choice of either allowing or blocking them.
