Taking out money in a foreign country without charges

Hi, next term i'm going to malaysia to study,

The problem is I don't really know what i should do about access to money, I have a solo and maesto card but I really don't want to be charged 2.5% of whatever everytime I take money out!

Whats the best thing I should do

Open a new bank account (effort! haha)
or
Traveller's cheques

or is there an easier way?

thanks alot! I really appreciate any help!

As kerrs69 says. Open Nationwide account, get the debit card to go with it. Make local currency withdrawals from ATMs without commision or charges. :) Also consider the Nationwide credit card for commision free purchases while overseas. You can administer the accounts online.
