so i moved into a new rented accomodation on the 5th of feb, i set up my energy with EDF but it would not come into force till the end of march. i contacted british gas (current supplier) informed them i had moved in and would be willing to pay for any energy used from when i moved in till edf took over the account. they agreed and informed me they would send a bill out to me once the account had ended,

roll on till mid march edf had taken over the account etc. I received a letter from british gas i thought great the bill for feb till the end of march, upon reading the bill they were trying to charge me for the gas and electricity used from mid jan till the end of march not only that it was an estimate.

let me point out the people who lived in the house before had 5 kids neither adults worked and had all amenities.

where as my girlfriend and I, have no kids, both work daytime 10-12 hours did`nt have a washing machine at the time nore a fridge or freezer, so we used the house very little especially electricity and gas, we have a combi boiler which was one for 3 hours max a day

i phoned them up immediately and was informed them that an estiamte was not accurate as for the reasons stated above, they told me i should pay the bill in full and they would then credit me any mistakes they had made, now i totally don`t agree with this so informed i would send meter readings they did`nt care said i should pay in full then they would re inburse.

roll on a few more months constant arguments with British gas refusing to lower the bill to what it should be and to the times we actually lived in the house.

then last week i recieved a letter from lcs some debt collection company claiming i owe british gas for energy between jan and end of march, i informed them of the situation , and told me they would get back to me after speaking to british gas , which they did`nt and now i`m getting hassling phone calls , what can i do i have meter readings but neither company wts to budge they all want me to pay for energy i have`nt used help anybody please:T

Does the letter from British Gas billing you from January onwards have your name on it, or is it just in the name of 'The Occupier'? As if you only said you moved in in early February then anything prior to that should still be billed, just with the name of 'The Occupier' as no one's sure who's responsible...

Also, when you called up to say that you'd moved in, did you provide a meter reading from that day to start your account off to?

I assume you have a tenancy agreement from a date in Feb and that also the LL took readings on the day you moved in. Provide copies of both of these pieces information to BG if they continue to try and bill you from Jan.

The energy used between the old tenant moving out and you moving in should be billed to the LL.

couple of things everyone should remember....

when you move in/out - give an immediate meter ead, or you will get an estimate..

when the prices change - give an immediate read as the companies estimate your reading at time of price increase.... and im sure the always under estimate!!! so you pay on the new rates
Promo codes are never always cheaper..... isnt that right EuropCar?

    Questions about the BG bill:

    1) Is the Jan reading an estimate?
    2) Is the Mar closing reading an estimate?

    Hi poultrum

Whatever the initial problem was it soulds like the service that we have provided since has really not been good enough. I'm really sorry about this, but if you can send me your name and either your address or account number to PAYGE_MSE_contact@britishgas.co.uk then I will arrange for someone to investigate it properly.

    Thanks
