Gas/Elec Madness!

Hi all, i am hoping someone can advise me on what to do.

I have just moved into a new house, one meter (elec) is a prepayment meter with scottish power and the other is a normal meter with n-power.

Scottish power have said they are coming out on fri 1st July to put in a new prepayment meter and i have told them i dont want a new prepayment meter i want a regular meter (because then i will switch to edf who i have found to be cheapest for me). Anyway they have said i cant have a regular meter i must have a new prepayment meter.. to cut a long story short they want to come out put in a new prepayment meter then come out a few weeks later and put in a regular meter. Whats going on there?

Also i wanted to switch to edf who have said that because i am switching from prepayment to a regular meter i cannot join their fixed rate tarriff and must go on their standard tarriff?

I have never had to do this before as this is my first home after living in several rental houses and i have no clue whats going on! Help?!

If you've arranged to join EDF already, then they will have had to process the order as a prepayment one, as that is the meter that you have just now. That's why they'll be telling you that you can't go on the fixed price deal, as I don't think it's avaliable for prepayment meters. Your two options are to arrange the transfer just now, then wait until you've joined them and get updated onto the fixed price tariff (assuming that Scottish Power have changed the meter by then and the fixed price deal is still open) or cancel the transfer until the meter has been changed to a credit one, at which point you should be able to transfer over on the fixed price (again, assuming that it's still open).

As for why Scottish Power are insisting on the two meter changes, I have no idea. That part just doesn't seem to make sense at all...

Why are they switching you onto a prepayment meter? You evidently didn't ask for it. Tell them to get stuffed. Call EDF now and organise a switch.

EDIT: Switch to EDF on the pre-payment meter, they'll change it for free. Once changed, you can go onto a fixed rate.

    Hi kimberleyanddarren,

We will often refuse to remove a prepayment meter unless a security deposit is paid but changing from and old to a new meter just to have a normal meter put in 2 weeks later is a waste of time.

If you e-mail me at onlinecomplaints@scottishpower.com with your details I will see what we can do for you.

    Kind regards
