serious help needed

Well my hubby is off on his tour of duty on the 27th Dec for 5 months. I have had to change my hours at work and that means i will be down£240 a month. I need to get my budget in place and be able to save on my shopping bills. I have 3 children and a dog and me.. In that order too most of the time....

Any advice will be greatfully received. I have a big fridge freezer so can batch cook, just need receipes and ideas. I cant drive so do get my shopping delivered by either tesco or iceland. SO HELP PLEASE...
Thank you and happy christmas

what kind of meals do u like ? and how much fo a food budget do u have ?

i alwasy find mince is excellent for producing inexpensive meal's and simple to bulk cook and freeze for later on. meals like , spag bol , lasagne , chilli , shepards pie, mince beef and onion pie.

i often make bread rolls to go with a meal to bulk it up. as it stops us picking in an evening.

i use a bread maker for this. i have treid in the past without one and i just can't make them , they either go so hard they could break a knife trying to cut it , or they don't rise.

i also use my bread maker to make the dough for a pizza base.

i have a morphy richards one which cost about 50 pound nearly 5 years ago. but they sell it ( now under name of cookworks ) in argos for 20 pounds. u can even make jam and cakes in it.
  • I have got a breadmaker too can you go through the process with me please?

  • okay kimmie deep breath, lots of love to you and hubby when he's away .For my breadmaker rolls i put them on dough setting pull out shape into 12 leave to prove and then bake ( my 5 year old dd loves them she vey fussy) .As for meals think if you put up a meal plan what you would all eat in a typical week it would help.I would be thinking along the lines of rubber chicken roast one night followed by pie, stew the next dont panic someone will be along that is much better at all this than i thinking off you xx

Hiya if you have breadmaker make pizza dough in it!! The kids say this is better than any take away we have ordered and they can help pick the toppings ( so no onions mine are the same) i tend to do them ham and cheese pizza with garlic salt, they love this and it is so much cheaper than buying them, there is normally enought for dinner for me next day.

I can shop for 6 of us 2 adults 4 kids and the cat for £60 a week, but my store cupboard is quite full at that with flour baking stuff ect.

Look at the recipes on here have found loads of CHEAP family meals on here, and i love seeing if i can spend less each week.

What do you feed your dog - if it's tinned food, you can save loads by going onto the bags of dried food. Not all dogs like it, but they can usually be persuaded by mixing in a small amoung of something else eg gravy.
