Best bank account..

I am looking to change my current bank account from Santander. I am trying to get an idea of the various good and bad about particular banks, but read good things about one, only to come across bad star ratings somewhere else. Well I have been with both Nationwide and RBS in the past and was not impressed. I have been looking into the Clydesdale and Barclays, but have also heard HSBC are very good. For someone on low income , but is not wanting an overdraft- but simply an account where money can be kept, but also access good friendly customer service when needed, does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

First Direct and the CO-OP Bank always get at least 80% in the customer satifaction polls and are well like by their customers and with good reason. These days that takes some doing!
Run a search on this forums site.
First Direct expect £1500 to be paid in a month. However if you take their credit card or a savings account, I understand this does not apply. It is a phone and internet bank which is part of the HSBC group, so you can use their branches for some transactions.
The Co-op Banks " Standard current account" only needs £1 to open. While the Co-op has few branches, it can be run through the Post Office Counter Service. Something I find very useful!
I would think you would be very happy with either bank!
Let us know which bank you finally deside on. If reports I have read are anything to go by, any one is likely to be better than your current one.0 -
Try HSBC,
there very good, and as DrySyn says First Direct are very good to. because there a part of HSBC, it does say you need to pay 1500 a month but if you open a savings account put £1 in there that account will be free.• HSBC (Main A/C)
• Halifax Back up A/C
• Lloyds (Spending) A/C
• RBS Back up A/C
• Barclays Old A/C
• Nationwide Old A/C0 -
I like Nationwide.0

Thanks for the info, I have certainly never been on £1500 a month..£1000 tops. So can't really go with any bank that relies on a specified amount to go in each month. I am taking it with the savings account, I can still access it as I would a current account..as this is primarily what I am looking for..not really at a point I can start doing much investing right now! Lol. I will also look into Co-op. Thanks.0

I find HSBC are good. Not the best rates for savings but it's easy online and you can apply for other accounts and have them open instantly online
I have 4 accounts under the same user ID and I find it easy to manage them.0
