Thanks all for your replies. Direct Line are one of the most expensive insurers for me. I just renewed my current policy with Liverpool Victoria as they were by far the cheapest again this year (and also got an extra £30 off after calling up to cancel
) . I do know that LV offer a discount on second car insurance - i actually had a second car for a few weeks earlier in the year and their charge was very reasonable.
In terms of the missus building up a NCB - i guess the 'best' way seems to be get her a small car which is cheap to insure and just build up the NCB on that0 -
That's what we did. I looked into all of this about 2 years ago and in the end it is the cheapest way.
Last year Direct Line were by far the cheapest for me, this year they were twice the cost of my cheapest quote. The renewal quote was actually 3 times as much, but they reduced it after a bit of negotiation, however I still left them and saved myself £250. That's why being tied to a single insurance company is a bad idea - you need to switch companies regularly as it seems prices fluctuate massively.0 -

It is just such a pain and add a load to their costs which we then pick up too."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
