MESH Computer - Bust PC and Company in Warranty

Options
I have a home computer bought from MESH Computer a year ago. at the end of May 2010, (costing a £1000). The PC has been problematic, but generally worked OK.
The problems got worst, to the point that the PC only started about every other time I turned it on.
I e-mailed and called MESH who said I could return the PC but I should back up my data first, (to cut a long storey short, this was achieved) Around mid May I requested a RMA by e-mail (returns number) it took them several weeks we are now at the point when the warranty was about to expire, however I was assured that this was not a problem, because I had requested the return within the warranty period. However it took over a week to get the RMA number, i was told to pack the computer up and they would call me with the collection details.
This was on June 2nd, I also became aware that MESH were in adminsitration just a few days earleir, but I was again assured all would be OK, they the staff were still there, and the wbsite was still running and taking orders.

A week has gone by, so I have tried to call but after the intial message the customer services extensions are dead, no web site anymore !!!

Through a little research the assets have been sold to a comapny called PC Peripherals, the press release said they would honour warranties and the deal was set up by the administrator MacIntyre Hudson LLP who i emailed about the situation they replied sayig they only acted for MESH, I asked for PC Periphers deatils but no reply, and I e-mailed a comapny called PC Peripherals (not certain its the correct company) again no reply.

I believe the problem with computer is the mother board which is the most expensive item in the computer.

What can I do, any advice please

Personally, I could not live without my computer so I would not be sending it off to anywhere in to the black hole of some admin paper chasing, buck passing, jobs worth nightmare.

Bite the bullet and take it to a local PC repair specialist who will find the loose wire and fixit on the spot (the loose wire bit is just a guess). Do not take it to PC World.

what makes you think it's the motherboard?
sounds like it could also be a faulty psu, mesh used the cheapest ones possible if you didn't spec it yourself - however, i just try to figure out what the problem is and fix it yourself, but maybe that just because i hate sending things into a warranty repair, there's always something not under warranty that needs fixed!!

Hopefully you paid for it by credit card (or visa debit) in which case the card company will pay for the repair as Mesh have gone out of business.

The hard drive spins when the power is turned on but there is no POST beep that you get when it is going to satrt, (i think post means power on startup test ) cant remember exactly, so we have spinning hard drive, little lights on at the front but no windows start up routine.
I used to be in IT in another life or about a decade to ywo ago.

Do you get anything on the screen?

Could be something simple like a loose ram module or graphics card, faulty graphics card or faulty boot file on the HD or other startup file

The power supply could be gone too - they are only cheap to replace and easy to check

i havnt check the seating of the various componets, because of the warranty, but no post surely means that the mother board is broken !

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies.
