bhs dresses sizes question

Can anyone tell me what like bhs bridesmaids dress are like for size,i have read in some reviews that the sizes are way off is this right as thats then hard to know what size to order,i have already had dresses ordered from amazon which where also well off on the sizes and also crap so sent back and now looking for others,i see that bhs do free deliver and returns which is good,as amazon seller did not and it was a lot of hassle,i really could be done without the whole hassle again of sending back ordering etc, they did not seem to have this range in our store, any advise on people who have ordered or got there dresses from there would be great and are they nice and good value for money

Can your girls not go into a store & try them on, then you could order them?

Wedding and bridesmaids' dresses are almost always on the small side by at least a size. If you're interested as to the reason (skip this part if you're not :D) it's because dress sizes have steadily increased over the last few decades due to 'vanity sizing' - basically as women's average size has increased, fashion houses have increased the sizes of their clothes to flatter their customers so they buy more from them. As the wedding industry doesn't need to worry too much about repeat business their sizes have not increased as much over time.

I'd advise getting your maids to visit their local BHS to try bridesmaids' dresses on in whatever style, just to get an idea of the fit. I've heard that they are usually pretty good about exchanging for a different size, as well.

My DD tried on a bridesmaid dress there in her usual size and it wouldn`t zip up.

Had to go up two sizes to get one to fit.

Wedding dresses and bm`s dresses generally are made on the small size even in bridal shops.

so how does there returns work then this could be a nightmare again for us,my other half was in the store a few weekends ago and there was no bridesmaids dresses there to try.
what we are after is for three girls dont really know what to try or order, one girl aged about 17 and she is normally size 8 in a dress so was thinking a size 10,the other girl again she is aged 12 and is still growing and she is normally an 8 but was thinking of size 12,tha last girl is aged 29 and she is normally a size 12 was thinking stick to a 12.
On the dresses we had already got from amazon on the girl aged 17 she fitted the size 10 fine,12 was too big.
The girl aged 12 she was not a size 8 but a size 12,but they never tried a 10 on and im sure it might have been a better fit as the upperback of her dress was loose but the rest was ok,but we really dont know if 10 would have fitted her.
And the girl aged 29 she did not fit the 12 it did not even fit at the back zip,but size 14 was ok.
I still to get refunded on these dresses and you can understand its getting really stressful in getting the right sizes here.
So when say we order and we find one or more dont fit, does this mean we can send it back and get a replacement,or do we need to buy another and anorther until we get it right as that sounds like a lot more hassle and a very expensive one at that.

Ha I never knew that was why!
  • Be aware that not all stores stock the wedding range ( as I found out : Basingstoke doesn't for example ; the nearest that does to me is Southampton), so may be worth calling beforehand to check if you need to make a special journey..

Sounds like the best idea would be to find the nearest store that stocks them & take everyone to try them on, safest way to do it.

nearest is about 250 miles away to be honest would be hard getting everyone to be able to go and the expensive of having to get all that far.Cant understand why they dont stock it in all stores even if only for customers to try on at least

On the website, they have a measuring guide so get your girls to lay their hands on a tape measure and see which size they are according to the chart.
Our B2B chose the Alicia and we all let her know what size we were. (and they look fab BTW!!)
I came up a size bigger than normal but decided not to let it bother me - who's gonna see the size label except me?!?
They arrived very quickly and it fits really well.

Just to warn you, they come up REALLY long, probably on the basis that you can shorten a dress but you can't lengthen it!!
