Stoozing is the common name given in the UK to the act of borrowing money at 0%.
Do a Google search and you will get all the info you need.

I read the article at http://www.stoozing.com/full.htm - and completely failed to understand a lot of it, especially the diagram.
How can you ask a credit card company to move money from your (separate??) bank account, and why when you are trying to get money into the account would you wish to do this?Under no circumstances may any part of my postings be used, quoted, repeated, transferred or published by any third party in ANY medium outside of this website without express written permission. Thank you.0 -
It is difficult to begin with isn't it? It took me quite a while to grasp it when I started last year.James_N wrote:I read the article at http://www.stoozing.com/full.htm - and completely failed to understand a lot of it, especially the diagram.
You need to remember that balance = debt. How can you ask a credit card company to move money from your (separate??) bank account, and why when you are trying to get money into the account would you wish to do this?
So, when we talk about balance transferring, we mean the transferring of debt (money owed) from one organisation to another.
The cash to repay (or to use a loan shark term, 'buy') this debt goes the other way.0 -
I am the author of the stoozing guide on the above site. If you have any suggestions for improving it, I'd be interested to hear about them. It is a while since I have checked and updated it. The aim of the diagram was to make it easier so any suggestions gratefully received! It would be more appropriate to discuss improvements to it on the stoozing site itself rather than discuss it on MSE. Also, don't forget that Martin has a guide to stoozing (see link above this board).James_N wrote:I read the article at http://www.stoozing.com/full.htm - and completely failed to understand a lot of it, especially the diagram.

Edit - I've started a discussion thread on the Stoozing General Discussion board on the stoozing site if anyone wants to give any feedback/comments.

can it still be done as easily these days? - I am now in a position to possibly try myself but still a little unsure at the mo....0 -
Yes it can still be done and the techniques are no harder or easier than they ever were. However, the introduction of uncapped balance transfer fees has made it harder to find profitable card offers.ollyk wrote:can it still be done as easily these days? - I am now in a position to possibly try myself but still a little unsure at the mo....

Horrible word-worse than 'dogging' IMO so i'll suggest an alternative:
SCROTING.0 -
Too late I'm afraid. "Stoozing" evolved naturally as a word: named after one of the early adopters of the technique (Stooz - who co-owns the stoozing site). It is in may web dictionaries and I believe that Collins and Chambers dictionaries both plan to include it in their dictionaries. Collins has already produced a book of contemporary English language that not only defines the verb "to stooze" but also has it on its title.Horrible word-worse than 'dogging' IMO so i'll suggest an alternative:
SCROTING.

Having witnessed the genesis of this word, it has been an interesting lesson in how words develop. One of the fundamental things that I have learned is that no-one can impose a word on the world, nor prevent a word being used, nor shift the meaning of it by imposition. It evolves naturally by usage. In the early days of stoozing, Martin Lewis was keen to see it called "Supertarting" but it never took off, because "stoozing" had already become established.
