Need a bit of advice. I was looking to do some stoozing but have applied for a few cards without any luck.

I did a credit search. No defaults, missed payments or CCJ's. Any advice? Bit embarrassing really.

A credit rating is more than just a number or a word! For example...

    Income?
    Total available credit?
    Total used credit?
    Any financial associates?...(dragging you down)
    On electoral roll?
    Time with bank?
    Time with employer?
    Time at address?
No of searches last 3-6 months?
No of searches last 6-12 months?
    Etc
    Etc

Income isn't really an issue. I am Self Employed though - but have been for about 17 years. Bank and Time at address over 10 years. Elecoral Roll yes - for about 15 years. Financial Associates - no.

21% of credit resources of 10k in use.

Who's declined you? And have you currently or recently had any dealings with them?

I tried Capital One. I used to have a card with them but paid it off about 6 months ago and closed the account. I tried Halifax but they said that there was no offers on my account, at the moment.

You said you'd applied for a "few" cards. You've only listed one there (the Halifax won't count as you didn't make an application, merely an enquiry as to offers on your account), so which others?

Capital One have a 6 month wait if they decline you. I'm not sure if it's a 6 month re-apply time? This may have caught you out if they didn't close it immediately?

Thanks. I'm still waiting for one that is being referred. But I guess that means a NO too.:(

Not always, I always say 50/50 if you get referred :)

I'm trying to find the thread and failing but I remember before seeing that a credit score of 999 wasn't a 'real' score? It was just a place holder for 'not enough information' or something?
