** Help with Npower / Westcot & Moorcroft **
Hello,
Just needed a bit of help and advice of my current situation with my previous energy supplier - Npower.
I moved to Scottish Power from them in April this year. I contacted Npower via email to confirm my outstanding balance to close my account & rid myself of them. They confirmed £91.
I paid this amount at the end of April, and have since recieved threatening letters from Moorcroft.
I contacted Npower again by email to query this & they confirmed my account balance is now zero and to ignore these letters.
Phone calls then persisted from the vile Westcot - so I again contacted Npower by email. On this occasion they replied and advised me this additional £118 I was being chased for is outstanding and is for just my electricity account. I never have been invoiced previously for the account number they quoted as I had a dual fuel account with them - plus the fact I have two emails from Npower stating the only remaining balance was £91, and after payment this amount that my account is now zero.
I have responded to this & opened a complaint case with them - just wanted to know where I stand with this? Who should be best for me to contact should Npower argue this amount (which I have no doubt they will) and is there any legal jargon I could use against them?
Any help would be muchly appreciated,
Many thanks
Katy

Westcott & Moorcroft are of no real consequence whatsoever, intended only to frighten / bully you, and just because Npower ask them to contact you doesn't mean that you have to speak to them or that they can do anything about the debt without a court judgement.
Should you hear from them again I suggest you write a short letter to Wescott / Moorcroft stating that as far as you are concerned (and Npower had confirmed in writing) the account was cleared in April. Any further claim currently being in dispute and awaiting Npowers response you are not prepared to discuss the matter with them at all but shall refer all further contact on the matter to Npower and if necessary the Ombudsman and Courts. Please therefore desist from any further contact failing which you shall seek legal advice on their harrassment. I suggest you also get yourself a whistle & blow it extremely loudly down their ear should anyone choose to ignore your request (they probably wont want to do that twice!)
That said, it is unclear from your post why they say there is a further £118 out standing. If you believe that the £118 is correctly billed, despite the fact that Npower may have said the account was cleared, I'd suggest you save yourself a lot of time & trouble and pay it.
If however you genuinely believe that the £118 is incorrect you may wish to have a look at the Energy Ombudsmans site & how you can raise a complaint with them should Npower not respond to your satisfaction / or within the required timescale. http://www.ombudsman-services.org/energy.html
These people are tediously slow & may or may not prove of any use to you, depending upon the nature of the dispute, but it should certainly stop debt collectors from bothering you on a disputed "debt" whilst they look into it.0 -
Hello katypops
I'm sorry to hear about your problems - and also that you've been asked for an extra £118 after you were told your account was clear.
If you send your details to forumresponse@npower.com, I'll check this out for you if you like?
Thanks
