How to save on running costs of electric oven?

I've got a bacon joint roasting right now, and it's in its last half hour. It suddenly struck me, do I really need to keep the oven on until it's done or can I switch it off now and save half an hour's power? Have I turned it off too soon, too late or at about the right time?

Experience has taught me that an electric oven stays very hot for about 15 mins... (Provided you don't open the door) Half an hour is pushing it!!I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

Well, the bacon joint (boneless) turned out well but I'll remember coolagarry's 15-minute rule for the future, especially when I'm doing chicken (or turkey!) so as not to risk food poisoning. And yes, we need to put in a new kitchen in the New Year so we're going to invest in the most efficient appliances we can afford.Context is all.
