Cant Make Credit Card Minimum Payments

in Credit cards
Hi,
due to circumstances I dont want to go into, my partner has been unable to work for the past 6 months. This has resulted in her being paid SSP only which is a massive drop from what her salary was before.
its been hard for months trying to make ends meet, but the last two months we have been sinking deeper into debt.
I have always paid at least the minimum on our cards even at the expense of going over my overdraft limit.
This month however, I have not only gone over my overdraft but had some of my credit card direct debits returned unpaid.
The addition of bank charges to this situation doesnt make it any easier
What course of action would be open to me? I have already shaved everything i can off our budget.
If i wrote to all my creditors explaining the situation are they likely to be sympathetic and reduce my payments or interest for a few months until we get back to a situation where i can afford to service them?
Any advice appreciated.
