How to find my dual fuel usage? I am with Scottish Power Paying £105/mnt.

Hello all...

I need advise please. I am with scottish power for both gas and electric on standard tariff. I live in a 2 bed flat with just myself and a friend. My bills have gone up from £75 to £105 in the last 3 months.
A) How can i find my monthly usage so i can change provider ? I think they send me bills every 3 months.
b) is there a cheaper provider than scottish power ? i have read and heard that EDF is much cheaper than scottish power.

pls advise..thank you much.

Hi fairenough786 - I'm afraid there are no quick answers and it's down to you to do the homework to control the Utility bills.

Forget your monthly costs - these will vary from cheap in Summer to Ouch! in winter and it is your annual use in Gas & Elec Kwh you need to know to visit the Switch sites.

If you have been resident for a year or more, phone SP and they will tell you what these annual consumption figures are.
If you have not, look at the bills you have had and work on the basis of your Summer gas consumption going up by 80% in Winter, and your Summer Elec consumption going up by 20%

Your mention of a "Standard" tariff is worrying as these are the most expensive, and is the one the SP would have put you on as a new account when you first moved in - Do the homework and get onto a cheaper one

.i will try and call SP and find out more and tell them about changing my provider. I have lived here since almost 2 years and yes, the bills do say somthing on the reverse, like : usage for this period : mar-apr 1200kw etc (as an example)

Lets say if i change my provider, will i have to pay an cancellation to Scottish power, any pending bill etc ??? thank you much.

No cancellation fee, just the outstanding amount due on your final bill.

It might be worth waiting a few weeks for the other big 5 to announce their price increases otherwise you'll switch and then get stung by a price hike.
