So it was decided yesterday that prices for motorcars will increase from £2-70 to £3.

Whilst the date hasnt been released I emailed the Humber Bridge some two months ago and asked if pre payed coupons would still be valid post price rise. They confirmed that they will.

Hence I would urge people to buy these. They already have 10% off and save you from the further future 11% rise hence you pay £2-43 for a crossing rather than £3 (19% 'saving'). Especially handy if you're close to one of the offices so dont have to pay the admin fees.

I wonder if Martin's team can make this a news item?

I used to go over the bridge every day as I commuted to Hull from S!!!!horpe, what an exotic commute that was.

    :)

It was around £2.50 for the crossing back in 1991, prices haven't gone up much by the look of it.

You're right in that prices havent increased much over the years but for daily commuters, such as yourself in the past, any increase can make a big difference.

Just to let people know - the vouchers arent vehicle specific - i.e. possibly buy a book of 20 for the family to share?

They have for wagons. Its now going to be over £20. Used to be under a tenner.

I did the maths last night. As I live in mid East Yorkshire it is actually now no no cheaper to use the bridge than to do the extra mileage if I am going east of the Humber Bridge once I get to the south bank. If I am going south or west of the humber bridge once I hit the south bank, it is now cheaper to take the long route round and only adds 20 minutes.

Upshot is it'll mean fewer people using it so they'll need to up the prices to cover their costs. I already knew of hauliers actively refusing to use the bridge a few years ago because they were taking the mick and even taking into account the cost of the fuel and the additional wages paid to the driver, it has been cheaper for some years now for a lorry to go round than to go over unless you were heading to Barton on Humber, Immingham or Grimsby and the only thing it saved was time.

Once the construction costs of the Humber Bridge was paid for they were supposed to reduce the toll to just cover costs (and probably a small profit). It's funny how they forgot to do that isn't it.

Yes. A wagon running out of Hull and doing deliveries to the south bank would have to add £40 to the cost to cover outward and return journey costs.

Successive governments saw it as a nice little earner. With the interest that has now been payed, the original loan has been repayed 3 times over and they could afford to write it off as its been more than paid back. Its just the southern government in this country screwing the north again - you'll note the Dartford Crossing got their loan written off but then again, its dahn Sarf so no surprise. We as usual get the sh1tty end of the stick.
