One Way Flights From Usa

We are having problems trying to get a one-way flight from New York (JFK) next year with BA. We are travelling out to Canada initially. Our problem is that I have enough BA miles for me and my wife, but our 2 friends will have to pay money.
1. If you book direct with BA you have to pay all the fare up front. 2. A return flight is cheaper than the one-way leg from the USA, but a man at BA I spoke to, to ask why- said it was illegal to buy a return ticket and not use the return half! He said this prevents other passengers from using the seats. "What if I cancelled the return leg then" says I ! "Then we have your credit card number and would charge you the cost of the one-way ticket" ! he replied.
Any comments or information would be most helpful - Thankyou.

i don't know your circumstances but i looked on BA's site and as an example there's only £1 difference between a london to toronto ..returning from new york to london fare (open jaw ticket) and a basic london to new york return. i just chose the same dates in june for comparison.
don't know whether this is of any use to you0 -
Thanks, but not any help. There is a considerable difference between costs from NY.hammy_the_hammer wrote:i don't know your circumstances but i looked on BA's site and as an example there's only £1 difference between a london to toronto ..returning from new york to london fare (open jaw ticket) and a basic london to new york return. i just chose the same dates in june for comparison.

We did this last year from California using Virgin. We bought a return ticket and just ditched the return leg.
It's definitely not illegal and they can't charge your card without your permission. What goes around - comes around0 -
Complete rubbish. Ive frequentlty not used the return ticket. Does he not think that using the return ticket might prevent other passanges using your seat also? Sounds like a complet plonka! Most full flights have people on standby. At the last moment they give the spare seats to these people even if the flight is fully booked.theloft wrote:said it was illegal to buy a return ticket and not use the return half!
