FTB buying a flat with existing tenants
Comments

I asked to see the tenancy agreement and the agent said they could not show me the actual agreement due to data protection reasons.
Is this accurate or bs?0 -
In which case tell the agent that you'll be quite happy to make an offer once you can see for yourself that the property is now vacant.
I suspect that the vendor cannot afford the mortgage-payments without the rental-income so I doubt that they are in a position to formally evict these tenants.
Walk away0 -

If you haven't yet got the message from 23 responses, you are clearly so determined to buy that you will ignore the next 23 responses.
Vacant possession.0 -
OP, why are you so keen to take everything the Agent tells you on face value, yet determined to question or ignore everything you are told here?
You are a FTB, in an excellent bargaining position to buy a property on your own terms. Wise up - tell the agent you want to see a copy of the agreement - or the vendor to evict their own tenants leaving you vacant to buy, or just walk away.0 -
Thanks, i appreciate all the replies. However, not sure if everyone has read all my posts.
I've stated a couple of times i'll put things on hold until the tenants have moved out, not spending money on surveys etc, and continue looking elsewhere in the meantime. Apparently that's been interpreted as ignoring advice? The only advice i've ignored is to walk away completely. I don't see what the issue is with putting in an offer conditional on vacant possession.
However, i have just been to the second viewing and the agent stated sellor will only serve notice when a survey has been booked.
So it's probably a not a goer if he doesn't back down from that position.0 -
Put your offer, together with your condition for vacant possession, in writing. Then start looking at other properies.
Either the seller will comply in which you get going again, or he'll hang on hoping to find a less astute buyer who is mug-enough to let him keep raking in the rent while the sale proceeds, with all the asociated risks we've discussed.0
