Misseling banks .... How about unfair customers?

1. If I go to Tesco or Morrisons to buy something the prices are clearly marked, so I know what I am paying and can make a judgement on value for the money.
2. If I go to the dentist on the NHS, I am provided with what it wil cost (or a least you should be).
3. I go to see a lawyer, I will betold how much he will charge me for the work I ask to be done.
4. If I go to an IFA, they will tell me how I will be charged by
(a) fee (b) commision or a combination of these methods.
From the replies I read (from those who appear to work for banks). They can happily suggest to us that the customer is dishonest and has not mis-sold PPI or endowments.
However it is totally wrong for me or anyone else to expect to be told:
(a) "We can only tell you about this things our bank has to sell"
(b) I am the agent of the bank and will be paid by them for any sell to you.0 -
In general I absolutely agree but how, from the OP's post, have you come to the conclusion that he or she is not 'driven by the customer's need'?
But having gone back to re-read the original post to check, I was astounded anew that someone so abysmally illiterate would be employed in a customer facing role.0 -
Fair point.

What if they're dsylexic but terrific with customers? To be fair the job they do requires little to nil written skill.0 -
You would have to be stupid to the point of not being allowed out on your own, if you expect an employee of a company not to push their own products. Are we becoming a nation of complete morons?0

If an employee can actually help a customer with genuine advice over the products THEY can offer (supplied by their employers), and in turn make a customer better off (which I strive to do every single day), then I don't see any issues.
Heck, I've even had customers display surprise when they're told we don't make any cash commission from any sales (because unfortunately, points don't always make prizes).

When did customers become responsible for the problems caused by "professional" bank employees? Frankly, if a bank hasn't solved a problem by the time the ombudsman receives it, and the bank then gets ruled in the wrong then the bank should be hit hard, where it hurts. Perhaps repeat offenders should be subsidising the system to a greater affair?0

So the many of you think that I've shouldn't sold the product to the customers and let them to continue having the poorer return. If they were savvy they would've found abetter product elswhere with a better return. But they didn't. Why?(Probably because they don't spend time on research as they are computer illeterate which is normal for their age) If they had a young savvy relative, he could show them a better options, however that did not happen.
Now you are telling me , that I would've provided them with a better opttion by leaving anything as it is and them not having these extra £250?
For the most 'intelligent' of you I repeat one more time - If I was advising customers to go to competitor, I would be out of job.
And orry for not being that altruistic, but my job is more important for me than a couple of a complete strangers.
Did you know that an average pay for a bank clerk is lower thatn a pay for a binman?
However Binmen are being paid by the taxpayer and the bank staff are paid by the private company, so have to do what the company want's it to do wether they like it or not.
And to avoid the speculations about the bailed out banks - I do not work for any of them and it has not received a penny from a tax payer.0 -
Im pretty sure that the following covers and misdemeanors in this situation.
Banks WILL NOT mis-sell or mis-advise unless it is human error.
The fines are into their millions if done so and are no something that will happen to the majority.0 -

And some staff will respond to that pressure in different ways.
One way would be to sell a product to a customer when they clearly shouldn't.0
