EDF Moving Problem

I moved house this weekend, and in the rush I forgot to take a final meter reading. The keys have gone back to the letting agent, so I cannot get back into the house. Will EDF be able to close my account without a final meter reading? I am £240 in credit on the account (somehow), so I'd obviously like to get that back.

Thanks for any help.

Hi reb30 - I'm afraid you have dropped yourself into what could be a very deep hole by not giving EDF your move-out meter reading.

Without this reading EDF will hold you responsible for all power/gas use until a new tenant moves in, and that is assuming the new tenant does give them a reading when they move in - If they don't you could find yourself being charged for thier power bills.

However it's only been a few days so go back to the letting agents, who if they are on the ball would have taken meter readings the day you moved out - If they didn't, grovel sufficiently for them to allow you access for the few minutes it takes to read the meter

    Thanks for your reply

Part of the reason that I forgot was that the letting agent messed up the check-out, and having finally got through to them to sort it out I find that they went in yesterday and did a meter reading. Sooo, false alarm :p

    Thanks again
