Credit card for online shopping

in Credit cards
Hi All, Im new here.
I have been looking at getting my first credit card mainly due to the security of buying online.
I have a race car and have to buy bits from all over the UK/USA so would like the extra protection over a debit card.
I dont buy into these pre-paid cards, I would like a proper card that someday i might need to bail me out of trouble if something goes wrong with my debit card.
The other thing is i would like it to be from a major bank. Not virgin money etc, And not amex:mad:
What can you suggest? My old man tells me a barclycard but there are so many!
Thanks
Mat

I'd suggest Santander Zero or the Halifax Clarity card, both of which do not charge for foreign currency conversion.I have a race car and have to buy bits from all over the UK/USA so would like the extra protection over a debit card.

You do know the "extra protection" only applies to purchases made directly from the retailer (ie not through paypal etc) of more than £100?
Oh, and just this once...don't listen to your dad!

Thanks for your help.
Does that include buying through an ebay shop and paying via paypal or does it not include paypal at all?
Im trying not to listen to him, Just he has experiance with all this:o0 -
Ok, So looked into this all tonight, Head's a bit fuzzy.
Looked into the paypal cover, And you are right. It covers nothing on paypal.
Its not that important to save on the overseas fee. I hardly buy anything out of the UK but i did last week so thought i would mention it.
I have been looking at the rewards i get from these and to me it seems like barclycard would give the best rewards suited to me. I run my own business so cant leave the UK so the holidays/airmiles etc are all out.
I like the idea of being able to spend the rewards in the shops and also gig tickets.
So out of the barclycards what would you suggest? I was thinking the "Simplicity" but is there a better suited one?
Thanks again
