Have had a clutch/flywheel fitted on vw touran, after driving away from garage the warning light came on so went back to get a diognosis check, which says the problem is a steering torque sensor, mechanic says if i get one hes not sure where its located, phone a VW main dealer for a price and they asked which sensor is it as there are 3-4 mechanic has no idea .the steering seems ok. anybody know if this is a big job/expensive problem

Bare with me i am not a doctor but here goes
wheels taken off car ball-joint cracked steering pulled to one side vehemently whether by accident i dont know,or on removing the gearbox the torque steer sensor or wiring was damaged
    it doesnt sound cheap
needs to go to either a very good garage with vw gear or basically a vw dealer for a proper readout of fault

    see im not a doctor

If it's all electric steering and similar to Vauxhall's then the torque sensor is incorporated in the steering column. But if VW designers are sensible it will be replaceable as a separate part. With Vauxhall, particularly the Mk1 Meriva, the whole steering column has to be changed at great expense! So fingers crossed. Hopefully as s b advises it's just a cable or connection related to the clutch/flywheel job.

We used to do lots of steering angle sensors on Audi's. They are located behind the steering wheel. HTH
