Trip abroad.. Missing receipts :(

Seriously.. Has to be one of the most annoying things ever. With previous employers, I used to just expense what I had receipts for and was just given the daily allowance for the days on which I couldn't produce receipts. For example, if I was away for 7 days and didn't have receipts to show for 2 or so of those days, they would just give me the daily allownce for those days.
I'm away again and have forgotten to retain a fair few receipts, which I always remember the next morning or just when I get back to the hotel, at which point I'm too tired to go back and try to play a game of charades with the waiter to try and get him to understand what it is I've come back for.
So my question is, everyone forgets the odd receipt now and then - how does your company handle this? There is an explicit sentence in my empoyers policy that reads "this daily allowance is not per diem", which I understand to mean they won't just give you the daily allowance as a standard..?
Cheers!

We have to submit receipts for everything, which seems fair to me (until I forget to get one!).Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

We have to provide reciepts for everything, no daily allowance. If i dont have a reciept i can put a petty cash note in but it would be exceptional. I bought a seperate purse for reciepts to make sure i dont lose them.0

It's got lot harder now so many countries/places produce electronic reciepts.
In the old days you just got your friendly well tipped regular haunt to do the missing ones.
Another opion if your company is a bit mean on missing ones is to eat in the hotel that's one reciept you tend not to forget.
Gets borring.
Do your companies let you put booze on your bills?0 -

I thought you'd all say that
!
What about on the occasions where I've used my credit card and can pull out some of the expenses from my statement? Anyone got any opinions on that?
Yes, I can expense booze, but don't drink much when I'm away and alone.0
