Help Please with washing machine

Options
Ive jsut gotten in from work to disscover my beloved washing with 3 garments fo clothes on wash - thanks to my none o/s sister.

there was a hoody, a tshirt and one of her little ones top on a quick wash! Anywya ive just open the door of the washign machine (it said it was done) and flooded my kitchen!! Its never done that before so when i spoke to my sister she said no she plugged it in added the powder (tescos one which i always use) and turned it to quick wash and left it too it - fair enough i thought

bf has admitted he turned the washing machine off at the plug to make some toast because it wasnt spinning - no noise presumed it was off basically! but im sure hes done that before and it was ok and didnt flood the kitchen so ive been sat baffled for a bit.

So anyway after about 20 mintues of what the  is goign on with it then - my darlign baby sister has come through and said oh well i added some of that stuff to help get her daughters top clean..............ding ding alarm bells - i dont have any other cleaning products for the washing machine!! 'what stuff???'........................................shes put about 3 teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda in my washing machine!!!!! no wonder its not !!!!!!!g working

anyway ive no idea what to do - the water wont drain out of it - ive tried putting it on quick wash again but with no soap suds in to see if it wil rinse the pipes but ive no idea what the hell will happen their and if i open the door im just wreckign the kitchen by loads of water everywhere

anyone any idea please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Have you checked the filter? Even something as simple as a paper tissue can block it and stop it from draining.

In the little door where you get to the filter (mine's on the front at the bottom right) there should also be a little tube that will allow you to drain the water. You'll need a big bowl and lots of towels handy. :)

I don't think the bicarb will have been a problem.

I don't think bicarb will damage your machine, it should be ok... no idea why it won't wash though.. have you tried putting on a rinse and spin only cycle just to get rid of the water?

    Hi sammy_kaye,

I think it's very unlikely that the bicarb has caused the problem. I'll move your thread over to the In My Home board to see if some of the diyers over there can help.

  • Bicarbonate of soda won't hurt the machine at all.

The machine has been switched off in mid cycle by your boyfriend which has confused it ....that’s all.

You should always check to make sure the machine has emptied its water before opening the door....it saves loads of hassle !
  • Bf opened a little hatch on the bottom front of the drier and cleared a load of cr*p out of it and we put it ona basic cycle just to clear it - it still looks really foamy though - think maybe an after effect of bicarb of soda - it doesnt look to be working thouh - ive cleared the draw too though

ive put it on a pump spin cycle now to see if it will drain the water away

Highly unlikely the bicarb has caused the foaming; sounds more like an overabundance of detergent and insufficient rinsing.
  • Bicarb wont do it any harm, in fact its ok to use for cleaning & getting rid of musty smells in washing machines.
