Getting a scratch out of... plastic?

My mum got me this for my birthday and it arrived a couple of days ago:

She hasn't even seen it yet, but when trying to hoover it (lazy, lazy, I know! I have very much seen the error of my ways) I managed to scratch the hell out of it. Even though the brush was down on my stupid Meile hover
Is there anything I can do to get the scratches out please? She hasn't even seen it yet so I'm going to feel pretty bad if she sees it for the first time in it's current state :E
Thanks

aw.... not sure but perhaps if you call the manufacturer they may recommend something? If not, perhaps something for polishing car interiors/dashboards?0

Try T Cut or brassoEat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

I'd try WD40.....or .....http://www.instructables.com/answers/How-do-you-get-scratches-out-of-a-plastic-table-wi/
Another idea - people get scratches on their eyeglasses - go to optician & see if they can sell you something - may do the trick?
Alternatively, cover it with a large bowl or table lamp.
Good luck - sorry to hear about the damage0 -
T-cut is slightly abarasive so be careful - maybe a lot of polishing afterwards with a car polish? An electric car buffer or dremmel polishing attachment might help - try on an inconspicuous area first though, whatever method you use - it could end up worse. Shame - looks like a funky peice of furniture!0

Is there not a product that people use on their caravan windows to remove scratches so how about using something along those lines?
Heres one from ebay as an example.

Thank you so much for the replies guys! Lots of great suggestions, will start off with a car polish (have some Turtlewax stuff) and go from there, next will be the window scratch remover as above... thanks again!0
