Joint savings or not?

Hope someone can advise me here.
My partner is a tax payer and I am a non-taxpayer.
Can we put all our savings in an account in my sole name so we won't pay tax on it? (We are a very trusting couple!). Or will the tax man be a bit suspicious at self assessment time?

It definitely works for married couples. I am not sure about partners. Try to find answer in this DISCUSSION .0
