A peak return on the Manchester tram system is, I think, around a fiver. That's from around 4 or 5 miles out of the centre.0 -

As exposed by Panorama last year, there are 331 managers within the BBC earning more than £100,000 a year.
In fact, out of the top 10 earners in the entire Public sector, 7 of them were from the BBC, including:
Director General - £838,000
Director, Vision - £517,000
Deputy Director General - £488,000
Director, Audio and Music - £452,000
Chief Financial Officer - £434,000
Chief Operating Officer - £419,000
Director Future Media - £407,000
And let's think about some of the others further down the pay list:
Director MC&A - £345,000
Director BBC People - £328,000
Director BBC News - £327,800
Area COO - £325,000
Chief Creative Officer - £317,800
Director, Global News - £312,780
Director Vision Operations - £288,300
Director BBC Trust - £282,609
Controller BBC1 - £272,800
Controller of Drama - £270,919
COO, Journalism - £265,300
Director of Archive - £257,800
Director 2012 - £249,030
Chief Technology Officer - £247,800
I could go on, but you get the general gist of it. Interestingly, the BBC has a "Reward Director" (Salary - £196,550, not bad eh?)
As this is reputedly a public service, and I have to pay for it, I would think it is reasonable that I should expect value for money.
I believe in the concept of a Public broadcaster, but unfortunately, I think the whole business has turned into a barely accountable gravy train full of "jobs for the boys".
The whole of the BBC needs a damn good shake up.
There's some very good points in there, and sounds like it does need a shake up. I still can't bring myself to care though, as I'm dead happy with all the stuff I get for £12 a month and, bluntly, £12 isn't a lot to me. Sorry, but that's just how I feel. I can get passionate about a lot of things in life, but not wastage at the BBC.0 -
Well, yeah, but I guess what I'm saying is that if you're happy with a price of the product do you care that much?
Yeah I agree with you, just thought I'd poke some fun
A lot of the things on here that people are up in arms about, I just don't care. Bankers bonuses are another one, I feel like I should care because everyone else does but I just can't find it in me. My view is simple.
Waste is waste. Sugar coat it how you like.0 -

Okay, let's say, just as an example, that these 331 people earn an average of £150,000. And let's say that you sack them all tomorrow and just have the BBC run with people on less than £100,000. This would save 1.1% of the BBC running costs, as their budget is around £4.6bn. This would mean my license coming down from £12.12 a month to £12.02. Can you see why I'm finding it difficult to care all that much? Obviously this assumes that other costs would remain the same, but they might go up as you've removed a management layer whose job, presumably, is to keep costs down to some extent.tartanterra wrote: »Director BBC News - £327,800
Just out of interest, what would you set the salary as for the job that runs one of the biggest and most important news agencies in the world? I don't work in the media, but that kinda seems about right.0 -
